I woke up this morning and I must admit the thought of putting on the long underwear and bundling up is getting old, Yes I'm the guy that loves winter , yes I pray for snow & love to make turns....but t-shirts & shorts sound good too. The Wheel of the Year is turning and it is turning toward spring and the best time to hike the desert . Winter is fading just like the sunlight on this rock in Goblin Knobs...Old Man Winters grip is starting to slip.

After lunch we hiked down to the creek. It felt great to be in the shade of the trees rather the blinding glare of the upper snowfields. We follow the creek back to lake stopping to shoot along the way. I love the way creeks look in the winter.

Winter... I just love the season. There are only 15 more days of Winter. I gotta get out there...Sawtooth?

The Big Dump last night consisted of wet & heavy snow, the branches of the pines were straining under the weight. They were ticking time bombs just waiting for the wind to come along & give them a nudge then whoosh a ton of cold wet snow is unleashed on the unsuspecting hiker and his dog. Brrrrrrr....

Day Hike in the Reveille Range

The Goblin Knobs area is only about 2 square miles of the Reveille Range, but the scenery is awesome. There are lots of knobs and peaks to explore and the views of Quinn Canyon Wilderness and the Grant Range are spectacular. We spent the day hiking and climbing knobs and of course shooting photos. I took about 500 photos during the three day trip. I ended up using around fifty, you can be the judge if I captured any good ones. We kept moving most of the day because of the cold which allowed us to explore most of the area.

Sunrise in the Reveille Range

It's really hard to get out of the sleeping bag under normal conditions, but even more so when it is a frigging minus 1 degree outside. The fingers on my hand were numb after shooting for just a few minutes , but I couldn't operate the camera in gloves...Whatever you do don't touch that tripod barehanded!
The morning sun really lit up the knobs in warm light...too bad the "pop" only last a few minutes. I wish we could of had one more morning to shoot the sunrise

Nevada Road Trip...I just got back from a three-day road trip to the Goblin Knobs area of the Reveille Range. I really needed to get away and I've been feeling like I've lost a little bit of the original purpose of this blog, so to get back on track I had to get Outside in Nevada and shoot, somewhere really remote and Wild, and somewhere most folks haven't visited.
The Reveille Range is located east of Tonopah in Nye County along the Extraterrestrial Highway (Hwy 375)just a hop, skip, and a jump from Area 51(Groom Lake). It was a great trip and the area is stunning, but it was brutally cold (frigging freezing). I'll try to get some photos posted this week; I think I have a few you might find interesting. Keep it Wild, Kurt
