Petersen Mountain
Just north of the Biggest Little City sits a seldom visited mountain range called the Petersen’s. At the first glance the Petersen’s look steep (and they are), treeless and almost most lifeless except for the little patches of green that dot its flanks. I just went on a hike to the top of the Petersen’s and found them to be rich. There is a linear valley near the ridge that is hidden from the valley below.
We were on the trail for about 15 minutes when we saw one of the biggest does I have seen trot up over the ridge. Those little patches of green are really lush springs that support the wildlife. The hidden valley twists and turns as it follows the ridge line is complete with aspen groves and fields of flowers. Yes the Petersen’s are rich. The Petersen's are rich in Wilderness quality.
