INCANDESCENT ROCKS , Virginia Mountains.
Incandescent Rocks is one of those places I never tire of visiting. It is forever changing, the light, the clouds, the way they seem to dance on the bands of color. I went out there with a hardy group of hikers from the Nevada Wilderness Project. We did the classic hike to the dry waterfall through the upper reaches of the canyon passed what looks like blobs of white mud with precariously perched glowing red balance rocks. We ate our lunch below the peak to get some shelter from the winds that seem to come from all directions. Our descent took us down a very steep slippery canyon through the bands of color, though the very soul of the place. The colors were incredible whites, reds browns all complimented by the blue sky. We laughed and joked back at the vehicles at the end of a perfect day tailgate party with beer, diet Pepsi and salty snacks, and hope of Wilderness designation for the Virginias
