Sawtooth Ridge
The thought of winter's passing has made me think of winters gone by and all the fun, adventure and moments of sheer terror I've enjoyed with my friends in the Range of Light over the years. My friend Cliff and I set out on a one day photo safari Saturday to capture a bluebird day in the Hoover Wilderness. I shot over 200 images and I will be posting some of those images throughout the week.
To me there is nothing like high steep granite walls to stir the soul, the imagination, and to think about what is really important in one's life. So after a bit of reflection I want to thank those men and women of vision who have worked so hard over the years to protect and preserve the Wilderness of our great country. We must all do our part and protect the remaining places for future generations places, because Wilderness is essential to the American spirit and one thing is for sure, God is not making anymore of it. I've posted one of my many favorite Ed Abbey quotes below to both inspire us and to give us a chuckle. Ed Abbey was a rather colorful fellow and his words ring true just as much today as the day he wrote them...maybe even more.
We need Wilderness
"We need wilderness because we are wild animals. Every man needs a place where he can go to go crazy in peace. Every Boy Scout deserves a forest to get lost, miserable, and starving in. Even the maddest murderer of the sweetest wife should get a chance for a run to the sanctuary of the hills. If only for the sport of it. For the terror, freedom, and delirium. Because we need brutality and raw adventure, because men and women first learned to love in, under, and all around trees, because we need for every pair of feet and legs about ten leagues of naked nature, crags to leap from, mountains to measure by, deserts to finally die in when the heart fails."
